Darren Midlane has been an avid horticulturalist since childhood; in fact, the original Harvest Quest inoculant formula was discovered from his research into creating peat substitutes for use in professional growing medias. For the more than three decades since, he has overseen its application across the US, UK, Australia and Asia. Midlane has advised hundreds of composting operations, has helped write language for organics industry regulations, and continues to educate the industry as a whole through high-profile speaking engagements. The biotechnical basis for all LifeSoils products is developed under the direction of Midlane.

After attending the University of Florida, Ryan McMeekin was recruited by Watson Construction to help build their organics operations. He quickly rose to become general manager of the whole division, and oversaw their growth in processing both green waste and food waste. McMeekin gained experience running equipment (grinding, screening, turning) and built a passion for composting in his pursuit of excellence. During efforts to improve the overall outcome of Watson’s food waste composting, McMeekin retained Darren Midlane for advice. As their collaborative relationship evolved, he followed that passion and joined our team in 2016.
